Riverwalk Wine Expo, November 11

Native American Material Culture Tour: Join this special hour-long archaeology walking tour focused on the presence of native peoples in James Fort during the first few years of the settlement. Native Lifeways of the Chesapeake: Meet Dan Firehawk Abbott of the Nanticoke people of Maryland’s Eastern Shore to learn about the lifeways of the Tidewater Algonquians and their interactions with the settlers of Jamestown. Pumpkinville is a fun, seasonal treasure in Toano, VA, part of the Greater Williamsburg area. Pumpkinville is operated by a local family farm. Your family can pick their own pumpkins from their patch or choose from our large selection of pre-picked pumpkins in the yard. In addition to pumpkins, there is a large selection of pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, flowers, wooden cut-outs, arts and crafts and fall decorations. Bundles of cornstalks and bales of straw are also available for purchase.

Introduction to Scrimshaw at the Virginia Living Museum, October 28
In this workshop, learn about the history of scrimshaw: the art of carving on bone or ivory. This art form—popular during the golden age of whaling—was an easy and creative way for sailors to pass the time and make keepsakes for loved ones at home.

Skate Jam After Hours, October 28
Check out the Skate Park during a special night skateboarding competition. Participants will be divided into experience categories and judged on style, flow and difficulty of the run.

Without a navy when the Civil War erupted, the Confederacy sought new technologies to defend their ports and rivers. Consequently, they developed a system of torpedoes, which aided their defense, sinking several Union ironclads, gunboats, and transports.

Chesapeake Bay Retrospective: The Art of Lew Thatcher, Thought October 31
Lew Thatcher paints in the realist genre. His art is detailed, focused and believable. Over 40 years of sailing and exploring the waters, marshes and harbors of Chesapeake Bay have provided him with a vast wealth of maritime subjects.

Fall Lecture Series: Pirate Women, October 26
Pirates dominate the popular imagination, from Halloween costumes to the silver screen, but there is much more to the story than parrots and peg legs. Author Laura Sook Duncombe sheds light on a forgotten corner of pirate history-the women who sailed the seven seas alongside (and sometimes in command of) their pirate brethren.

Yorktown Victory Weekend Celebration at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Yorktown Battlefield, October 14 -15
Hands-on military experiences, artillery firings and a preview of the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown with the debut of the new introductory film and exhibition galleries. Run for the Hills 5K/10K and Fall Fest, October 14

Pumpkinville is a fun, seasonal treasure in Toano, VA, part of the Greater Williamsburg area. Pumpkinville is operated by a local family farm. Your family can pick their own pumpkins from their patch or choose from our large selection of pre-picked pumpkins in the yard. In addition to pumpkins, there is a large selection of pumpkins, gourds, winter squash, flowers, wooden cut-outs, arts and crafts and fall decorations. Bundles of cornstalks and bales of straw are also available for purchase.
