Jamestown Day at Historic Jamestowne & Jamestown Settlement, May 12
“Jamestown Day” features Historic Jamestowne’s ongoing archaeological discoveries of the 1607 fort and one of Jamestown Settlement’s ships sailing in the James River. A variety of family friendly programs on Powhatan and English weaponry, military and maritime demonstrations, and traditional music and entertainment will take place at both sites.

2nd Sunday’s Art & Music Festival, May 13

Women with Vision: Masterworks from the Permanent Collection, Through May 13 (LAST WEEK)
The Muscarelle Museum of Art is proud to present Women With Vision: Masterworks from the Permanent Collection in conjunction with William & Mary’s 100 Years of Women celebration. This exhibition features over thirty works by prominent women artists from the permanent collection and is comprised of a variety of media styles and time periods expressing their vision.

Guerilla Girls: Conscience of the Art World, Through May 13 (LAST WEEK)
The Muscarelle Museum of Art is proud to present Guerrilla Girls: Conscience of the Art World in the Herman Graphic Arts Room as part of the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of coeducation at William & Mary and in Virginia. Since 1985 and even more stridently today, the Guerrilla Girls have been concerned with broader discrimination; particularly social oppression related to race, class, and gender.

Roaring, stomping animatronic dinosaurs are back!  Journey back millions of years to the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods as you visit the Museum’s changing exhibit gallery and throughout the Museum grounds and experience life-like dinosaurs around every turn. Second 2018 Members’ Co-Op Show, Through June 8
The Williamsburg Contemporary Art Center’s second 2018 Members Co-op Show opened on May 1 and is now underway through June 8. Featuring bodies of work of member artists and artisans, the show offers lots to see and take in – a variety of mediums and styles in the main and middle galleries.

Confederate Piracy on the High Seas: The Clarence/Tacony/Archer Affair, May 12
When the CSS Florida, commanded by Lieutenant John Newland Maffitt, captured the Baltimore brig Clarence, Lieutenant Charles W. ‘Savez’ Read took command of the brig to operate separately from the Florida as a commerce raider. Read then seized several merchant ships including the bark Tacony.

Inside James Fort: Built of “Pales, Posts, and Railes,” Saturdays through May 19
Building a fort proved to be a necessity for the colonists within a month of their arrival in 1607. In 1994 Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologists found evidence of the trenches and post molds from the original palisade lines. Carpenter Paul Zelesnikar will demonstrate the tools and methods used by the first colonists to build everything from the fort walls to stools and chests. Stop by to learn more about this important trade!

Quilt Exhibit at the Gallery at York Hall, Through May 31
It’s the longest standing exhibit at the Gallery and you don’t want to miss the new additions for spring. Visit the Gallery to admire these beautiful handcrafted quilts. You’ll also find a collection of new art, jewelry, pottery, and much more for sale.

Bingo Night at the Satellite Taproom, Thursdays

Pirates Invade Yorktown, April 28 & 29
Explore our pirate encampment, attend pirate school, and witness a pirate trial! Sing along with the sea shanties and don’t miss the exciting cannon demonstrations. You can even sail the stormy waters of the York River with Captain Mayhem. He’s looking for pint-sized recruits to join his crew. No worries. We doubt he’ll make you walk the plank! At Riverwalk Landing in Yorktown.

Williamsburg Craft Beer Festival, April 29
The 2018 Williamsburg Craft Beer Festival will feature more than twenty craft beers from at least ten different breweries. Attendees will enjoy craft beer, live music and food will be available for purchase from local food trucks.

55th Annual Art on the Square, April 29
The Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg (JWCW) will hold their 55th annual Art on the Square on Sunday, April 29 in Merchants Square. Art on the Square will feature over 150 artists and a variety of local vendors, including Aroma’s, Ben & Jerry’s, Two Drummers and King of Pops.

Opera in Williamsburg Presents Carmen, April 20, 22 & 24
Carmen is an opera in four acts by French composer Georges Bizet. It is set in southern Spain and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. Presented in full with chamber orchestra accompaniment.

An Afternoon of Cultural Cuisine at the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, April 28
Explore the multicultural heritage of southern cooking during a special afternoon culinary event on Saturday, April 28, featuring cooking and conversation with Michael W. Twitty, African American and Jewish culinary historian and author. The program begins at 2 p.m. in the museum’s re-created Revolution-era farm.

Watermen’s Museum Presents Yorktown Story Slam, Every Fourth Monday
Story tellers come together at the Yorktown Story Slam every fourth Monday of the month to share their true personal tales about a monthly theme.  7 PM – Storytellers Presentation.  8 to 8:30 PM – Audience Stories.

In Search of Sir Walter Raleigh’s Lost Colony Lecture, April 28
Nicholas Luccketti, First Colony Foundation research vice-president, will present an overview of the history of the search, focusing on the excavations of 1991-1993, led by the late Ivor Noel Hume, that successfully identified a 1585 scientific workshop at Fort Raleigh National Historic Site.

A Colonial Christmas at Jamestown Settlement, December
Experience centuries-old holiday traditions and, December 23-31, festivities featuring period musical entertainment and appearances at Jamestown Settlement by the Lord of Misrule. A Jamestown Settlement holiday film and interpretive programs compare and contrast English Christmas customs of the period with how the season may have been observed in the difficult early years of the Jamestown colony.

Wreaths Across America Ceremony, December 17
A remembrance ceremony conducted by the Yorktown Coast Guard Station and members of local organizations pay tribute to our fallen war veterans. Fresh Christmas wreaths will be placed on grave markers to honor veterans buried there.

Third Sunday Children’s Art Class at On the Hill Gallery, December 17
In this Third Sunday Children’s Art event, we will have a different art medium every month.

Talk of the Town: Christmastide, November 24 – December 8
With an 18th century resident as your guide, walk about the city and experience the spirit of the Christmastide season as they share reflections on the holiday season, the news of the day, and perhaps even a little juicy gossip!

Join your family and friends for a raucous Christmas party at the Raleigh Tavern. Come toast the season, enjoy a dance, and partake in the liveliest of entertainments. Enjoy a tasty treat at the end of your tour through the Christmas Party.

Midwinter Stories, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Sundays through December 10
Among many Native communities in the Eastern Woodlands, storytelling takes place in the fall and winter, when domestic activities are mostly indoors and men are out hunting. Come hear the stories and traditions of tribes that frequented Williamsburg in the 18th century.

Senior Center Exhibit at the Gallery at York Hall, November 18 – December 9
Gallery at York Hall is excited about displaying a variety of art created by the Senior Center artists. While shopping for the holidays or for any occasion, be sure to stop by and admire the Senior Center Exhibit.
