Williamsburg Taste Festival, April 19 – 22
The Williamsburg Taste Festival, formerly the Williamsburg Harvest Celebration, is a celebration of fresh, local food and craft beverages. Combine original culinary authenticity with Southern hospitality and you have the ingredients for an amazing series of events. Opera in Williamsburg Presents Carmen, April 20, 22 & 24
Carmen is an opera in four acts by French composer Georges Bizet. It is set in southern Spain and tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by the wiles of the fiery gypsy Carmen. Presented in full with chamber orchestra accompaniment.

Yorktown’s “Sister Cities French Market,” April 21
Experience many things French with your favorite products for the seventh annual Yorktown Sister Cities French Market. Celebrate the spirit of the Saturday market in Port-Vendres France, Yorktown’s sister city since 1990. RavenCon 2018, April 20 – 22
The Con of Opportunity returns to Williamsburg, Virginia with over 300 hours of programming in one action-packed weekend! Come join us for National Junior Ranger Day, an annual recognition of America’s future. Children 14 and under, accompanied by an adult, can participate in a ranger-led walk of the battlefield, Saturday, April 21st, 2017. The walk will begin and end at the Yorktown Battlefield visitor center.

Earth Day Celebration, April 21

Magnificent Melodies, April 22

Lecture: Hampton Sides’ “In the Kingdom of Ice,” April 19
In the late nineteenth century, people were obsessed by one of the last unmapped areas of the globe: the North Pole. On July 8, 1879, the USS Jeannette set sail from San Francisco to cheering crowds in the grip of “Arctic Fever.” It hoped to reach the North Pole, and carried with it the hopes of the young United States. At the Mariners’ Museum.

Inside James Fort: Built of “Pales, Posts, and Railes,” Saturdays through May 19
Building a fort proved to be a necessity for the colonists within a month of their arrival in 1607. In 1994 Jamestown Rediscovery archaeologists found evidence of the trenches and post molds from the original palisade lines. Carpenter Paul Zelesnikar will demonstrate the tools and methods used by the first colonists to build everything from the fort walls to stools and chests. Stop by to learn more about this important trade!

Quilt Exhibit at the Gallery at York Hall, Through May 31

Experience Freedom Park in a whole new way with the Singletrack Maniac 50K! The generous 10-hour time limit (19 minute mile pace) for the 31-mile Ultra race is great for beginners, but the single track trails are technical and challenging with constant roots and elevation changes. Henry Stuart, Prince of Wales, was a prince of global vision. Though he never saw the sea until he was 10 years old, when he was given a ship in 1603, it was love at first sight. Hailed as “Protector of Virginia,” Henry invested in the 1607 expedition of the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery.

Aura Curiatlas Performs at the Kimball Theatre, April 7 & 8
Since 2014, the company has been known for its exciting and inventive blend of dance, theatre, and acrobatics to tell stories. The stories are inspired in many different ways including cartoons, romance, architecture, bus trips, and astrophysics. The lightheartedness, athleticism, and reliance on physical storytelling make Aura CuriAtlas engaging to audiences of varied ages and backgrounds. After the show, the performers will stay for conversations with the audience.

Victory at Yorktown 10K & 1-Mile Family Fun Run/Walk, April 7

Explore Watermen’s museum located on the Yorktown Virginia waterfront. The museum is educational and demonstrates the role Chesapeake Bay Watermen, from pre-colonial to modern times, have played in the molding of our nation.

Forest Explorers Walk & Talk at Freedom Park, April 8
Join us on the first Saturday of every month this spring for a nature program and guided walk on the new Living Forest Interpretive Trail! One of our expert nature guides will present a nature program on a different topic each month, then lead children and their parents on a trip through the forest to learn about plants, wildlife, insects and anything else we may encounter!

Taskinas Trek at York River State Park, April 6
The Taskinas Creek Trail is gaining a reputation as one of the most scenic and challenging hikes east of I-95. This three mile trail has a series of steep ravines that wind down to secluded bogs. There are also gorgeous overlooks of the Taskinas Creek Marsh which is home to various birds, fish, and mammals. Take the ranger guided hike through this interesting ecosystem.

Lecture: The History of the Museum Through Photographs, April 7
Explore the creation and early years of The Mariners’ Museum and Park through historic photos and stories, and learn about the people that made this Newport News institution possible.

Fresh Water Fishing Clinic, April 5

Easter Sunrise Service will be held on Historic Jamestown Island at 7:00 am on Sunday, April 1, 2018. All are welcome. Williamsburg Clergy from different Churches will lead the Interdenominational Worship Service.

Egg-Stravaganza at the Virginia Living Museum, March 31

Civil War Lecture Series – Confederate Pirates: The Capture of the St. Nicholas, January 13
Presented by John V. Quarstein, Director Emeritus, USS Monitor Center.The daring capture of the steamer St. Nicholas on June 2, 1861, in the Potomac River was the Union’s first charge of Confederate piracy during the Civil War.

Star Party – Laser Evenings, January 13
The Virginia Living Museum offers free star gazing beginning at sunset on the second Saturday of every month. The evening also includes a planetarium program and several laser shows.

Self-Guided Interpretive Hikes, Through January 15
Take a self-guided adventure along two interpretive trails. The half mile Bluebird loop is the paved walk way surrounding the Visitor Center. This trail allows all park guest to enjoy some of the most dramatic vistas of Taskinas Creek and the York River.
